HawaiiParents.com (“Hawaii Parents,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a free online directory that helps parents on Oahu discover keiki activities, sports, classes, camps, and programs. We care about your privacy and we keep the data we collect to a minimum. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written in plain English on purpose, but it is meant to be legally sound.
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, USA.
Who we are
Hawaii Parents is a small, independent local resource. We are not a government agency or a nonprofit, we are not affiliated with hawaiiparents.org, and we do not employ, vet, endorse, or guarantee any provider listed in the directory. Listings are compiled from publicly available information and from submissions sent to us. When you want to sign up for an activity, you contact the provider directly.
What personal information we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us, plus the basic technical data that almost every website receives automatically.
- Contact form submissions. When you use our contact form, we collect the name, email address, and phone number you enter, along with your message. Your phone number is optional unless the form marks it as required.
- Listing suggestions and updates. If you suggest a new program, claim or update a listing, or report incorrect information, we collect the details you submit and any contact information you include so we can follow up.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our web host automatically records standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit.
- Cookies and analytics. Our site may use cookies and privacy-conscious analytics to understand how the directory is used and to keep it working well. See the “Cookies” and “Analytics and third parties” sections below for details.
We do not require you to create an account to browse the directory, and we do not ask for sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, government IDs, or payment card details.
How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- respond to your inquiries and follow up on messages you send us;
- review, publish, and update directory listings, including suggestions and corrections you send;
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve the directory;
- understand general usage patterns so we can make the site more useful; and
- comply with the law and protect the site and its visitors from abuse, spam, or fraud.
Providing your information is voluntary
You are never required to give us personal information. Browsing the directory does not require an account. If you choose to contact us or submit a listing, you are doing so voluntarily, and by submitting a form you are asking us to use your information to respond and to operate the directory. Our legal basis for handling your information is your voluntary submission and our legitimate interest in running and improving this free local resource.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s advertising. We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site (described below), or when we are required to by law.
Analytics and third parties
We rely on a few third-party service providers to operate the directory. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how it handles data, and we encourage you to review them:
- Web hosting. Our website is hosted by a third-party hosting provider that stores the site’s files and processes standard server logs on our behalf.
- Google Maps. We use Google Maps to display program locations. When a map loads, Google may receive technical information such as your IP address in order to serve the map. Your use of Google Maps is subject to Google’s privacy policy and terms.
- Analytics. If we use an analytics service, it helps us measure traffic and usage in aggregate. Any analytics provider we use processes this data under its own privacy policy.
These providers may process limited data as needed to deliver their service. We do not authorize them to use your personal information for their own unrelated purposes.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Our site may use cookies to keep the site functioning, remember basic preferences, and, if analytics is enabled, measure how the directory is used. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can set your browser to warn you before accepting them. Some parts of the site may not work as smoothly if you disable cookies, but you can still browse the directory.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as we reasonably need it. Contact-form messages and listing submissions are kept for as long as needed to respond to you and to maintain accurate directory records, after which we delete or archive them. Server logs and analytics data are kept for a limited period for security and operational purposes and are then deleted or aggregated. If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so unless we are required to keep it by law.
Accessing or deleting your information
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Please send your request through our contact form and tell us what you would like us to do. We may need to confirm a few details to make sure we are acting on the right person’s request. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Children’s privacy
Hawaii Parents is a directory intended for parents and other adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Our forms are meant to be filled out by a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us through the contact form and we will delete it promptly.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect. However, no website or method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending sensitive personal details through the contact form.
Links to other sites
The directory links to provider websites and other third-party pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. When you leave HawaiiParents.com, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version here and update the effective date above. Significant changes may be highlighted on the site. Your continued use of the directory after an update means you accept the revised policy.
