The North Shore Lifeguard Association is a nonprofit founded in 1996 by the District Three City lifeguards who live and work on the North Shore, and it runs its own junior guard programme separate from the City one. Younger keiki train at Waimea Bay in June and older ones at Ehukai Beach Park in July, covering ocean and beach safety, physical conditioning, basic first aid and CPR, and environmental and cultural awareness. Participants must already be able to swim – this is not a swim clinic.
