The City and County of Honolulu’s Ocean Safety Department runs a free one-week Junior Lifeguard clinic at Waimanalo Beach Park each summer, one of seven O’ahu sites. Keiki and teens ages 11 to 17 train directly with Honolulu lifeguards on rescue boards and rescue tubes, learn how to respond to someone struggling in the water, and cover basic CPR and first aid alongside physical fitness and teamwork. Each session is capped at 50 participants and registration opens island-wide on May 1, so the Waimanalo week fills quickly.
